Our New Walkway

Ron Hoot Construction completed our new walkway yesterday. Earlier in the Spring, one of the items on our LIST was to clean up that walk. There were weeds galore and the grass had grown over an entire brick on each side. John's original plan was to take the bricks up, cut away the encroaching grass, replace any broken bricks, put a firm sand foundation and lay the bricks back down nice and neat. Well, he got about 1/4 of the bricks off and looked at the 3/4 that lie ahead and said, "What have I done?" 80% of the bricks were just crumbling apart. We came to the realization that trying to lay them back down and get it to looking nice again would be next to impossible. We scratched our heads and decided to rip out the old and put in a new sidewalk from the front door out to the driveway. We'll sod and hope that in a couple years the front lawn will all blend in and it won't look like a strip of sod going up the front of the yard.
Tonight I handed John the marker to check off, "Clean up the front walk - pull weeds..." He checked it off. Then he added to the LIST, "Plant sod."
Sigh.
